Lingnan College


Originated in 1888, Lingnan (University) College is a business school postioned as a leading business and economics education provider and research institute in Southern China. Over the past 21 years, with the help of Lingnan alumni, Sun Yat-sen University and the Government, Lingnan has become a leader in both research and teaching in the region.
1888, Lingnan University was established by Dr. Andrew P. Happer in Guangzhou.

1904, after several relocations, Hong Lok Village was selected as the permanent site of the University.

1927, management of the University was passed into Chinese hands and Dr. Chung Wing Kwong became the first Chinese President.
1930s, Lingnan University had developed into a well recognized comprehensive university offering a wide range of disciplines in the liberal arts, sciences, engineering, agriculture and medicine, with outstanding faculty of high academic achievement and graduates scattered all over the world.

1952, during a nation-wide restructuring of colleges and universities, the departments of Lingnan University were incorporated into other universities, primarily into Zhongshan University (now Sun Yat-sen University). Zhongshan University then relocated from its Shipai campus to Hong Lok Village.

1988, while celebrating Lingnan University's centenary, the representative of the State Education Commission announced the establishment of Lingnan (University) College of Sun Yat-sen University.

1989, Lingnan (University) College was launched. During the early years of its development, the College has two  departments of economics and computer science.
1997, the Department of Computer Science and Computing Mathematics was incorporated into the other colleges of the University, and the college established itself as a business school.
1998, the College and MIT Sloan School of Management signed a cooperation agreement to run the MBA program together.The college signed a collaboration agreement with Université Lyon III and EMLyon set up the Sino-French MBA program.

2000, after receiving the official approval from the Chinese Ministry of Education, the college signed a collaboration agreement with Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota and set up the China Executive MBA program (CHEMBA).
2001, the college’s MBA program was ranked the first among the universities with MBA programs.
2003, the college initiated the first EMBA degree program in healthcare management in China.
2006, Forbes Magazine placed the college’s MBA program third in the “Most Valuable Full-time MBA Programs in China”.

2008, The CHEMBA program was ranked first in the “Best Chinese-Foreign Cooperative EMBA Programs”. It was ranked forth and fifth in the “Most Influential Chinese MBA Programs” and “Most Valuable Chinese EMBA Programs” in 2008, respectively.
2009, Lingnan MBA program ranked 4th for the most influential MBA in China.
2010, AMBA Accreidtation of Lingnan MBA and EMBA programs was endorsed by AMBA's International Accreditation Advisory Board.
2010, Lingnan (University) College was awarded a three-year EQUIS Accreditation by the European Foundation of Management Development.

The College has 7 departments, including Economics, Finance, Insurance, Public Finance and Taxation, International Business, Logistics Management, and Managerial Science & Engineering.
